Apple has been very active in the wireless and networking area for many years. The base station they make for wireless connections is called Airport Extreme.
The Airport Extreme base station is a wireless 802.11n system that you can hook up to 50 users to, share hard drives and even printers with as well.
They also make another version called Airport Express that can share 10 users, printers and can stream your music as well for iTunes. It's small enough to pack in a laptop bag too.
The newest wireless wonder is Time Capsule, which is also a wireless 802.11n router, but will also allow you to back up OS X through wireless.
